Subsection (8) is added to section 320.0609, 6 Florida Statutes, to read: 7 320.0609 Transfer and exchange of registration license 8 plates; transfer fee.— 9 (8) When the owner of a vehicle transfers a registration 10 license plate to a replacement or substitute vehicle acquired 11 from a motor vehicle dealer licensed under this chapter, the 12 dealer shall timely provide to the department, via an electronic 13 system administered by the department for this purpose, 14 information regarding the transfer which is required by the 15 department. The dealer shall also give the owner written notice 16 documenting the transfer if the dealer cannot timely provide the 17 required transfer information to the department, due to system 18 or connectivity problems. The dealer shall maintain records that 19 are required by the department, which must be open to inspection 20 by the department or its agents during reasonable business 21 hours. The dealer may charge the vehicle owner a fee to comply 22 with this subsection. The department may charge a fee of $2 for 23 each transfer, in addition to any other fee imposed by law. The 24 department may adopt rules to administer this subsection. 25 26 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 27 And the title is amended as follows: 28 Delete line 10 29 and insert: 30 provision; amending s. 320.0609, F.S.; requiring motor 31 vehicle dealers to electronically report certain title 32 transfer information to the department regarding the 33 transfer of license plates to vehicles acquired from 34 such dealers; requiring dealers to maintain records of 35 such transfers; providing a fee; providing for the 36 adoption of rules; providing an effective date.
