A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to advanced registered nurse
3practitioners; amending s. 893.02, F.S.; redefining the
4term "practitioner" for purposes of the Florida
5Comprehensive Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Act to
6include certain advanced registered nurse practitioners;
7providing a contingent effective date.

9Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11     Section 1.  Subsection (20) of section 893.02, Florida
12Statutes, is amended to read:
13     893.02  Definitions.--The following words and phrases as
14used in this chapter shall have the following meanings, unless
15the context otherwise requires:
16     (20)  "Practitioner" means a physician licensed pursuant to
17chapter 458, a dentist licensed pursuant to chapter 466, a
18veterinarian licensed pursuant to chapter 474, an osteopathic
19physician licensed pursuant to chapter 459, a naturopath
20licensed pursuant to chapter 462, or a podiatric physician
21licensed pursuant to chapter 461, or an advanced registered
22nurse practitioner licensed pursuant to s. 464.012 whose
23practice is in a county that complies with the Department of
24Health's electronic system for monitoring the dispensing of
25controlled substances, if provided such practitioner holds a
26valid federal controlled substance registry number.
27     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2009, if HB
28143 or similar legislation establishing an electronic system for
29monitoring the dispensing of controlled substances is adopted in
30the same legislative session or an extension thereof and becomes
31law.
