Florida Senate - 2009 (NP) SR 1264 By Senator Bennett 21-00942-09 20091264__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the contribution of the 3 Florida Nurses Association on its 100th anniversary. 4 5 WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association is a highly 6 respected professional organization that serves and supports all 7 registered nurses through professional development, advocacy, 8 and the promotion of excellence at every level of professional 9 nursing practice, and 10 WHEREAS, on March 1, 1909, in Jacksonville, a group of 11 nurses came together in order to promote unity among nurses, to 12 keep abreast of progress, and to unite for greater control of 13 nursing and, together, founded the Florida Nurses Association, 14 and 15 WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association was instrumental in 16 developing and encouraging the Legislature to pass Florida’s 17 first Nurse Practice Act in 1913, which protects the public by 18 regulating the practice of professional nursing, and 19 WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association is a strong voice 20 for the nurses of Florida and is fueled by the strength and 21 commitment of the professional nurses who compose its 22 membership, and 23 WHEREAS, Florida Nurses Association members carry on the 24 work of the association at the local level through community 25 service, political involvement, health care advocacy and 26 education, and mentoring, and 27 WHEREAS, the members of the Florida Nurses Association are 28 registered nurses from all levels of professional nursing 29 practice, with a variety of education, training, experience, and 30 specialty areas, and the members are patient advocates striving 31 to advance the profession of nursing to ensure the delivery of 32 the highest quality of nursing care, and 33 WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association has represented 34 registered nurses before the Florida Legislature as well as the 35 Executive Branch in order to advance the nursing profession and 36 to advocate for the patients they serve, and 37 WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association will celebrate its 38 100th anniversary at its biennial convention at the Tradewinds 39 Beach Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida, on September 22-26, 40 2009, NOW, THEREFORE, 41 42 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 43 44 That the Florida Senate recognizes the 100th anniversary of 45 the establishment of the Florida Nurses Association and commends 46 the association for its contribution to the advancement of the 47 profession of nursing and to the health and well-being of 48 Florida’s residents. 49 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with 50 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the Florida 51 Nurses Association as a tangible token of the sentiments of the 52 Florida Senate.
