The Committee on Higher Education (Pruitt) recommended the
following:

3 Delete lines 38 - 73
4 and insert:

6 after the end of the drop and add period or for courses
7 from which students withdrew after the end of the drop and add
8 period unless a student has dropped or withdrawn from the course
9 due to a verifiable illness or other documented emergency if a
10 student who receives an award disbursement terminates enrollment
11 for any reason during an academic term and a refund is permitted
12 by the institution’s refund policy.
13 (11) Funds for any scholarship within the Florida Bright
14 Futures Scholarship Program may not be used to pay for courses
15 dropped after the end of the drop and add period or courses from
16 which students withdraw after the end of the drop and add period
17 except as otherwise provided in this section.
18 Section 2. Paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section
19 1009.532, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
20 1009.532 Florida Bright Futures Scholarship Program;
21 student eligibility requirements for renewal awards.—
22 (1) To be eligible to renew a scholarship from any of the
23 three types of scholarships under the Florida Bright Futures
24 Scholarship Program, a student must:
25 (a) Effective in the 2009-2010 academic year and thereafter,
26 earn Complete at least 24 12 semester credit hours or the
27 equivalent in the last academic year in which the student earned
28 a scholarship if the student was enrolled full time. If the
29 student was enrolled part time, the student must have completed
30 a prorated number of credit hours as determined by the
31 Department of Education. If a student fails to earn the minimum
32 number of hours required to renew the scholarship, the student
33 is not eligible to renew his or her scholarship for a period
34 equivalent to 1 academic year. The student is eligible to
35 restore the award the following academic year if the student
36 earns the number of credit hours specified by the department and
37 satisfies the grade point average for renewal. A student’s
38 scholarship may be restored only one time.
