    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to the Florida Retirement System;
    3         amending s. 121.021, F.S.; redefining the terms
    4         “normal retirement date” and “normal retirement age”
    5         to allow normal retirement of Regular Class members
    6         after 25 years of creditable service and attainment of
    7         age 50; providing an effective date.
    8         
    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10         
   11         Section 1. Paragraph (a) of subsection (29) of section
   12  121.021, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
   13         121.021 Definitions.—The following words and phrases as
   14  used in this chapter have the respective meanings set forth
   15  unless a different meaning is plainly required by the context:
   16         (29) “Normal retirement date” means the first day of any
   17  month following the date a member attains one of the following
   18  statuses:
   19         (a) If a Regular Class member, the member:
   20         1. Completes 6 or more years of creditable service and
   21  attains age 62; or
   22         2. Completes 25 30 years of creditable service, regardless
   23  of age, which may include a maximum of 4 years of military
   24  service credit as long as such credit is not claimed under any
   25  other system, and attains age 50.
   26  “Normal retirement age” is attained on the “normal retirement
   27  date.”
   28         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
