Florida Senate - 2009 (NP) SR 1546 By Senator Baker 20-01938-09 20091546__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing February 6, 2010, as “Ronald 3 Reagan Day” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble 6 background, worked throughout his life for the cause of freedom 7 and advancing the public good, and 8 WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan worked as an entertainer, union 9 leader, and corporate spokesman before his election as Governor 10 of the State of California, and 11 WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction 12 for two terms as the 40th president of the United States of 13 America, during his second term earning the confidence of three 14 fifths of the electorate, and was victorious in 49 of the 50 15 states in the general election, a record unsurpassed in the 16 history of American presidential elections, and 17 WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated 18 President, he inherited a disillusioned nation shackled by 19 rampant inflation and high unemployment, and 20 WHEREAS, during his presidency Ronald Reagan worked in a 21 bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring 22 accountability and common sense to government, which led to 23 unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for millions of 24 Americans, and 25 WHEREAS, President Reagan’s commitment to an active social 26 policy agenda for the nation’s children helped lower crime and 27 drug use in many neighborhoods, and 28 WHEREAS, President Reagan’s commitment to the United States 29 Armed Forces contributed to the restoration of pride in the 30 United States of America and in the values cherished by the free 31 world, and prepared the United States to meet the challenges of 32 the 21st Century, and 33 WHEREAS, President Reagan’s vision of “peace through 34 strength” led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise 35 of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for 36 millions of people, and 37 WHEREAS, February 6, 2010, will be the 99th anniversary of 38 Ronald Reagan's birth, and the fifth since his passing, NOW, 39 THEREFORE, 40 41 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 42 43 That the Florida Senate recognizes February 6, 2010, as 44 “Ronald Reagan Day” in Florida and urges all residents of this 45 state to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly 46 in its observance.
