Floor: WD/2R . 04/27/2009 05:20 PM . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Senator Bennett moved the following: 1 Senate Amendment (with title amendment) 2 3 Delete lines 14 - 36 4 and insert: 5 125.01045 Prohibition of collection of fees for first 6 responder services.— 7 (1) As residents are currently taxed or assessed for 8 essential government services, a county may not seek 9 reimbursement from a resident of that county for any costs or 10 expenses that may be incurred for services provided by a first 11 responder, including costs or expenses related to personnel, 12 supplies, motor vehicles, or equipment in response to a motor 13 vehicle accident, except for transportation and treatment 14 provided by ambulance services licensed pursuant to s. 15 401.23(5). 16 (2) As used in this section, the term “first responder” 17 means a law enforcement officer as defined in s. 943.10, a 18 firefighter as defined in s. 633.30, or an emergency medical 19 technician or paramedic as defined in s. 401.23 who is employed 20 by the state or a local government. A volunteer law enforcement 21 officer, firefighter, or emergency medical technician or 22 paramedic engaged by the state or a local government is also 23 considered a first responder of the state or local government 24 for purposes of this section. 25 Section 2. Section 166.0446, Florida Statutes, is created 26 to read: 27 166.0446 Prohibition of collection of fees for first 28 responder services.— 29 (1) A municipality may not seek reimbursement from a 30 resident of that municipality for any costs or expenses that may 31 be incurred for 32 33 ================= T I T L E A M E N D M E N T ================ 34 And the title is amended as follows: 35 Delete lines 3 - 5 36 and insert: 37 ss. 125.01045 and 166.0446, F.S.; prohibiting counties 38 and municipalities from seeking reimbursement for 39 costs relating to certain first
