Florida Senate - 2009 (NP) SR 2698 By Senators Aronberg and Atwater 27-02247B-09 20092698__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing Palm Beach County on the 3 occasion of its Centennial celebration. 4 5 WHEREAS, Palm Beach County was born on July 1, 1909, 6 following the signing of the Palm Beach County Charter on April 7 30, 1909, and 8 WHEREAS, the development of Palm Beach County coincided 9 with the realization of railroad tycoon and Palm Beach resident 10 Henry Flagler's vision of establishing a railroad line from 11 Jacksonville to Key West, and 12 WHEREAS, with a total area of 2,386 square miles, Palm 13 Beach County is the largest county in Florida by area, and one 14 of the most ecologically and economically diverse, and 15 WHEREAS, Palm Beach County is composed of 38 incorporated 16 municipalities, from the Village of Tequesta in the north to the 17 City of Boca Raton in the south and including the cities of 18 Atlantis, Belle Glade, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Greenacres, 19 Lake Worth, Pahokee, Palm Beach Gardens, Riviera Beach, South 20 Bay, and West Palm Beach, the towns of Briny Breezes, Cloud 21 Lake, Glen Ridge, Gulf Stream, Haverhill, Highland Beach, 22 Hypoluxo, Juno Beach, Jupiter, Jupiter Inlet Colony, Lake Clarke 23 Shores, Lake Park, Lantana, Loxahatchee Groves, Manalapan, 24 Mangonia Park, Ocean Ridge, Palm Beach, Palm Beach Shores, and 25 South Palm Beach, and the villages of Golf, North Palm Beach, 26 Palm Springs, Royal Palm Beach, and Wellington, and 27 unincorporated areas, and 28 WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has shown a dramatic growth in 29 population, from 5,577 in 1910 to approximately 1.3 million in 30 2009, and 31 WHEREAS, Palm Beach County is a significant contributor to 32 the State of Florida's overall economic health, rich history, 33 and cultural diversity, and its county seat, West Palm Beach, is 34 the oldest incorporated municipality in South Florida, NOW, 35 THEREFORE, 36 37 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 38 39 That the Florida Senate hereby recognizes Palm Beach County 40 on the occasion of its Centennial celebration and honors the 41 residents, community leaders, and elected officials of Palm 42 Beach County for its 100 years of distinctive history.
