Florida Senate - 2009 (NP) SR 2702 By Senator Fasano 11-02243-09 20092702__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution honoring Captain Scott Michael Bierwiler 3 and extending the sympathy of the members of the 4 Florida Senate to his family and his extended law 5 enforcement family. 6 7 WHEREAS, Scott Michael Bierwiler was born in Cold Spring, 8 New York, on March 21, 1966, and 9 WHEREAS, Captain Bierwiler began work at the Hernando 10 County Sheriff's Office as a deputy sheriff in October 1986, and 11 rose through the ranks to Sergeant in 1998, to Lieutenant in 12 2003, and to Captain and Operations Bureau Commander in January 13 2008, and 14 WHEREAS, Captain Scott Michael Bierwiler served the 15 residents of Hernando County as special operations section 16 commander and vice and narcotics unit supervisor, he served in 17 the STEP (traffic) unit, the criminal investigations division, 18 and the intelligence unit, and also served as a patrol 19 supervisor, and 20 WHEREAS, Captain Scott Michael Bierwiler was a graduate of 21 the Command Officer Management School at St. Leo University and 22 the F.B.I. National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and 23 WHEREAS, Captain Scott Michael Bierwiler received numerous 24 commendations throughout the course of his law enforcement 25 career, including a Medal of Valor from the Hernando County 26 Sheriff's Office, a Medal of Valor and the Combat Cross from the 27 Fair Lawn Police Department, citations from the New Jersey 28 Senate and the New Jersey General Assembly, a Meritorious 29 Service Award and Departmental Citation from the Bergen County 30 Prosecutor's Office and the Bergen County Police Chief's 31 Association, and a Valor Citation from the Bergen County 32 Conference of the New Jersey State Policeman's Association, and 33 WHEREAS, on February 19, 2009, Captain Scott Michael 34 Bierwiler died in the line of duty, just 1 month shy of his 43rd 35 birthday, and 36 WHEREAS, Captain Scott Michael Bierwiler is survived by his 37 wife of 20 years, Angie, and three children, daughters Kayla, 38 18, and Kiley, 16, and son Scottie, 9, who are devastated by 39 their loss, but forever grateful for having been loved and 40 inspired by him, NOW, THEREFORE, 41 42 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 43 44 That the Senate hereby honors Captain Scott Michael 45 Bierwiler for his outstanding and selfless service to the people 46 of Hernando County and the State of Florida, and extends its 47 deepest sympathy to his family and his extended law enforcement 48 family. 49 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with 50 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Angie, Kayla, 51 Kiley, and Scottie Bierwiler as a tangible token of the 52 sentiments of the Florida Senate.
