2 A resolution recognizing March 19, 2009, as “Truckers
3 Day” in Florida.

5 WHEREAS, Florida’s economy depends on the most efficient
6 and reliable transportation system in the state, and
7 WHEREAS, the trucking industry is the backbone of the
8 state’s economy and, as a leading mode of transportation for
9 moving freight, is vital in advancing Florida’s prosperity, and
10 WHEREAS, Florida’s trucking industry safely performs vital
11 delivery and pickup of 70 percent of all freight moved in the
12 state, driving more than 16 billion miles while serving
13 communities, schools, and businesses with dedication and without
14 fanfare, and
15 WHEREAS, Florida’s trucking industry provides more than
16 450,000 jobs and more than $17 billion in wages each year to
17 Florida’s workforce, and
18 WHEREAS, the trucking industry’s dedication to maintaining
19 high standards to keep Florida moving strengthens the
20 transportation system and reflects the spirit of Florida and the
21 United States of America, and
22 WHEREAS, the hard-working drivers who are committed to
23 excellence and haul the loads to make those just-in-time
24 deliveries deserve our thanks, NOW, THEREFORE,

26 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

28 That without trucks, Florida stops, and that, because
29 Florida’s trucking industry is committed to keeping Florida’s
30 economy rolling, March 19, 2009, is recognized as “Truckers Day”
31 in Florida.
