Florida Senate - 2009 (NP) SR 2764 By Senator Diaz de la Portilla 36-03173-09 20092764__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 1 and 2, 2009, as 3 “Miami-Dade County Days” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, Greater Miami-Dade County is home to thousands of 6 businesses that employ millions of people and is the site of 7 foreign consulates, international trade offices, and 8 multinational Chambers of Commerce, and 9 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a center of world finance, 10 with hundreds of financial institutions and foreign agencies 11 within its boundaries, and 12 WHEREAS, the music and film industries have made Miami-Dade 13 County one of the largest audio and video production centers in 14 the nation, and 15 WHEREAS, agriculture continues to provide hundreds of 16 millions of dollars of economic activity annually in a 17 diversified industry, with Miami-Dade County one of the largest 18 producers in the United States of tropical fruits, ornamental 19 plants, and fish, and 20 WHEREAS, manufacturing is also a key industry in Miami-Dade 21 County, with thousands of companies employing many thousands of 22 individuals, and 23 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is experiencing a cultural boom 24 in world-class entertainment and cultural activities, which is 25 evidenced by the thousands of nonprofit cultural organizations 26 offering dance, theater, music, visual arts, festivals, and 27 special events, and 28 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a microcosm of the world, 29 where hundreds of countries are represented and diverse 30 languages are spoken daily, and 31 WHEREAS, 20 years ago the late Rep. John F. Cosgrove, as 32 chair of the then-Dade County Legislative Delegation, worked 33 with the private sector to create what is now Miami-Dade County 34 Days in Tallahassee, NOW, THEREFORE, 35 36 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 37 38 That April 1 and 2, 2009, are recognized as “Miami-Dade 39 County Days” in Florida.
