Florida Senate - 2009 (NP) SR 2778 By Senator Detert 23-04502-09 20092778__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing May 7, 2009, as “Children’s 3 Mental Health Awareness Day” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, the importance of meeting the mental health needs 6 of Florida’s youngest and most vulnerable residents is widely 7 recognized, and 8 WHEREAS, an estimated one in five children has a mental 9 health disorder, and early intervention and appropriate help and 10 support improve the chances of Florida’s children reaching 11 adulthood and leading healthy and more successful lives, and 12 WHEREAS, the most effective children’s mental health 13 services are collaborative, community based, and family driven, 14 and 15 WHEREAS, multiple state agencies, including the Department 16 of Children and Family Services, the Department of Education, 17 the Department of Health, the Department of Juvenile Justice, 18 and the Agency for Health Care Administration, as well as the 19 Sarasota Partnership for Children’s Mental Health, work with 20 Florida’s cities, counties, community agencies, and mental 21 health professionals to serve children and adolescents by caring 22 for their mental health needs, and 23 WHEREAS, May is National Mental Health Month, and 24 WHEREAS, Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day helps 25 inform the residents of Florida of the critical need for 26 effective care and special programs designed to assist children 27 and youth with mental health needs and their families, NOW, 28 THEREFORE, 29 30 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 31 32 That the Senate recognizes May 7, 2009, as “Children’s 33 Mental Health Awareness Day” in Florida.
