Florida Senate - 2009 (NP) SR 2782 By Senator Lawson 6-04734-09 20092782__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing FSU Head Coach Sue Semrau 3 upon her selection as ACC Women’s Basketball Coach of 4 the Year for 2009 and commending her for community 5 leadership. 6 7 WHEREAS, Coach Sue Semrau has served as head women’s 8 basketball coach at Florida State University for 12 years, and 9 has earned the title of the winningest coach in the history of 10 Seminole women’s basketball, and 11 WHEREAS, Coach Semrau has coached not only winning athletic 12 teams, but also winning academic teams, leading the Atlantic 13 Coast Conference with 65 ACC Academic Honor Roll selections, and 14 WHEREAS, Coach Semrau has demonstrated determination and 15 ingenuity in building interest in women’s basketball at Florida 16 State University, among other things, leading a 48-hour “Tents 17 for-Tickets” campaign during which she camped in a tent outside 18 the Donald L. Tucker Civic Center in an effort to sell 3,000 19 tickets, resulting in record women’s basketball ticket sales, 20 and 21 WHEREAS, Coach Semrau is active in the community and serves 22 on the Board of Directors of the Women’s Basketball Coaches 23 Association, and 24 WHEREAS, Coach Semrau has taken a team that was winless in 25 the ACC prior to her selection as head coach to four consecutive 26 NCAA tournaments, with 12 consecutive victories over in-state 27 rivals, and has led the team to 75 ACC victories, and 28 WHEREAS, Florida State University has earned 20 All-ACC 29 awards during Coach Semrau’s tenure and groomed two All-American 30 players, currently playing in the WNBA, and 31 WHEREAS, Coach Semrau has for 3 seasons been named Coach of 32 the Year by the ACC, America’s top-rated conference, NOW, 33 THEREFORE, 34 35 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 36 37 That Senate recognizes FSU Head Coach Sue Semrau’s 38 selection as ACC Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year for 2009 39 and congratulates her for her contributions to Florida State 40 University, the Tallahassee community, and the State of Florida. 41 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with 42 the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Coach Sue Semrau 43 as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
