    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing Lawrence “Ed” Hoffman for his
    3         50 years of professional and public service as Dean of
    4         the Lobbying Corps.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, Lawrence “Ed” Hoffman served in his much-beloved
    7  United States Marine Corps with great honor and distinction in
    8  the Pacific Theater during World War II and in the Korean War,
    9  and
   10         WHEREAS, Ed Hoffman brought his can-do attitude and
   11  outstanding leadership abilities to the legislative arena, where
   12  he has represented law enforcement officers, correctional
   13  officers, and firefighters since 1959, and
   14         WHEREAS, Ed Hoffman has served with distinction as the
   15  assistant fire chief for the City of West Palm Beach, as
   16  president and president emeritus of Florida Professional
   17  Firefighters, and, for the last 27 years, as the senior lobbyist
   18  for the Florida Police Benevolent Association, and
   19         WHEREAS, Ed Hoffman’s efforts have resulted in many laws
   20  that have provided much-needed protection and support for law
   21  enforcement officers, correctional officers, firefighters, and
   22  their families, and
   23         WHEREAS, as a result of Mr. Hoffman’s efforts, death
   24  benefits for the surviving families of law enforcement officers,
   25  correctional officers, and firefighters killed in the line of
   26  duty have been greatly expanded, legislation has been enacted to
   27  ensure that premium tax revenue received by municipalities are
   28  properly used for municipal police and fire pensions, and the
   29  Special Risk Retirement benefit accrual rate has been fully
   30  restored, and
   31         WHEREAS, Ed Hoffman has worked on behalf of our nation’s
   32  veterans on a pro bono basis as an advocate for legislation
   33  benefiting them and their families, and
   34         WHEREAS, in 1989, the Legislature recognized Ed Hoffman as
   35  “Dean of the Lobbying Corps,” and
   36         WHEREAS, 2009 is Ed Hoffman’s 50th year representing public
   37  safety officers before the Legislature, NOW, THEREFORE,
   38  
   39  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   40  
   41         That Lawrence “Ed” Hoffman, Dean of the Lobbying Corps, is
   42  recognized for his 50 years of professional and public service
   43  as a true champion of public safety, military veterans, and our
   44  representative system of government, and is celebrated for his
   45  unsurpassed knowledge of the issues, his legendary work ethic,
   46  his ferocious passion for the enactment of legislation
   47  benefiting his constituency, and his unequalled integrity.
   48         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   49  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Ed Hoffman as a
   50  tangible token of the sentiments expressed in this resolution.
