Floor: 2/AD/2R . 04/28/2009 04:16 PM . ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— ————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————— Senator Ring moved the following: 1 Senate Amendment 2 3 Delete lines 31 - 51 4 and insert: 5 (1) If the parent or legal guardian of a minor believes 6 that the minor exhibits symptoms of autism spectrum disorder or 7 other developmental disability, the parent or legal guardian may 8 report his or her observation to a primary care physician 9 licensed in this state, other than an obstetrician or 10 gynecologist. The physician shall immediately refer the minor to 11 an appropriate specialist for further screening if, after 12 examination and initial screening, the referral is clinically 13 indicated. The physician shall also inform the parent or legal 14 guardian of the right to direct access to an appropriate 15 specialist for screening, evaluation, or diagnosis for autism 16 spectrum disorder or other developmental disability. This 17 section does not apply to a physician providing care under s. 18 395.1041. 19 (2) As used in this section, the term “appropriate 20 specialist” means a qualified professional who is licensed in 21 this state and experienced in the evaluation of autism spectrum 22 disorder or other developmental disabilities, who has training 23 in validated diagnostic tools, and includes, but is not limited 24 to: 25
