9 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |

11 | Section 1. Subsection (12) of section 215.5602, Florida |
12 | Statutes, as amended by chapter 2009-5, Laws of Florida, is |
13 | amended to read: |
14 | 215.5602 James and Esther King Biomedical Research |
15 | Program.-- |
16 | (12) For the 2009-2010 2008-2009 fiscal year and each |
17 | fiscal year thereafter, the sum of $2 4.5 million is |
18 | appropriated annually from recurring funds in the General |
19 | Revenue Fund to the Biomedical Research Trust Fund within the |
20 | Department of Health for purposes of the James and Esther King |
21 | Biomedical Research Program pursuant to this section. From these |
22 | funds up to $250,000 shall be available for the operating costs |
23 | of the Florida Center for Universal Research to Eradicate |
24 | Disease. |
25 | Section 2. Subsection (5) of section 381.922, Florida |
26 | Statutes, as amended by chapter 2009-5, Laws of Florida, is |
27 | amended to read: |

29 | Cancer Research Program.-- |
30 | (5) For the 2009-2010 2008-2009 fiscal year and each |
31 | fiscal year thereafter, the sum of $3 6.75 million is |
32 | appropriated annually from recurring funds in the General |
33 | Revenue Fund to the Biomedical Research Trust Fund within the |
34 | Department of Health for purposes of the William G. "Bill" |
35 | Bankhead, Jr., and David Coley Cancer Research Program and shall |
36 | be distributed pursuant to this section to provide grants to |
37 | researchers seeking cures for cancer, with emphasis given to the |
38 | goals enumerated in s. 381.921. From the total funds |
39 | appropriated, an amount of up to 10 percent may be used for |
40 | administrative expenses. |
41 | Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009. |
