3     Amendment (with title amendment)
4     Remove lines 158-213 and insert:
5     Section 1.  The facts stated in the preamble to this act
6are found and declared to be true.
7     Section 2.  The Sheriff of Broward County is authorized and
8directed to appropriate from funds of the Broward County
9Sheriff's Office not otherwise appropriated and to draw a
10warrant payable to Eric Brody and his legal guardians in the sum
11of $7,000,000 as compensation for injuries and damages
12sustained.  
13     Section 3.  Any amount awarded under this act pursuant to
14the waiver of sovereign immunity permitted under s. 768.28,
15Florida Statutes, is intended to provide the sole compensation
16for all claims against the Broward County Sheriff's Office
17arising out of the facts described in the preamble to this act
18which resulted in the injuries to Eric Brody. Upon payment by
19the Broward County Sheriff's Office of the sum specified in
20section 2, the legal guardians of Eric Brody shall execute a
21complete satisfaction and release of their final judgment and
22costs judgment against the Broward County Sheriff's Office.
23     Section 4.  The total amount of attorney's fees, lobbying
24fees, costs, and other similar expenses relating to this claim
25is to be paid only to the claimant's currently retained
26attorneys and lobbyists and may not exceed 25 percent of the
27total amount awarded under section 2.

34     Remove lines 151-154 and insert:
35     WHEREAS, it is in the interest of Eric Brody, his legal
36guardians, and the Broward County Sheriff's Office to reach a
37final resolution of all claims arising out of Eric Brody's
38injury, and
39     WHEREAS, the Broward County Sheriff's Office's insurer,
40Ranger Insurance Company, has agreed to pay $7,000,000 on behalf
41of the Broward County Sheriff's Office to Eric Brody and his
42legal guardians as the sole compensation for all claims against
43the Broward County Sheriff's Office arising out of the facts
44described in the preamble to this act which resulted in the
45injuries to Eric Brody, and
46     WHEREAS, the Broward County Sheriff's Office requests that
47the Legislature authorize the payment of $7,000,000 to Eric
48Brody and his legal guardians through the submission of a claim
49bill to the Legislature, NOW, THEREFORE,
