A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to educational assessment; providing for
3discontinuation at the end of the 2008-2009 school year of
4the Florida Comprehensive Assessment Test in science
5administered to students in grade 11; requiring the
6science assessment administered at the high school level
7to be one or more end-of-course examinations; specifying
8requirements for an end-of-course examination; providing
9an effective date.

11Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13     Section 1.  Notwithstanding s. 1008.22, Florida Statutes,
14or any other provision of the law to the contrary, the Florida
15Comprehensive Assessment Test in science administered to
16students in grade 11 shall be discontinued at the end of the
172008-2009 school year. Beginning with the 2009-2010 school year,
18the science assessment administered at the high school level
19shall be one or more end-of-course examinations. The
20Commissioner of Education shall select one or more nationally
21developed comprehensive assessments for use as end-of-course
22examinations. An end-of-course examination must be rigorous and
23standardized, approved by the State Board of Education, and
24administered statewide. The content knowledge and skills
25assessed by an end-of-course examination must be aligned to the
26core curricular content established in the Sunshine State
27Standards.
28     Section 2.  This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
