7 | information.--Notwithstanding any other provision of law, an |
8 | agency, as defined in s. 20.03, may not prohibit or in any way |
9 | restrict or limit a public employee from doing any of the |
10 | following with respect to information regarding the immigration |
11 | status of any individual: |
12 | (1) Sending such information to, or requesting or |
13 | receiving such information from, the United States Department of |
14 | Homeland Security; |
15 | (2) Maintaining such information; or |
16 | (3) Exchanging such information with any other federal, |
17 | state, or local governmental entity. |
18 | Section 2. Section 125.582, Florida Statutes, is created |
19 | to read: |
20 | 125.582 Communicating or cooperating with federal |
21 | officials concerning immigration.-- |
22 | (1) A county government, whether acting through its |
23 | governing body or by an initiative, referendum, or any other |
24 | process, may not enact any ordinance or policy that limits, |
25 | restricts, or prohibits a law enforcement officer, local |
26 | official, or local government employee from communicating or |
27 | cooperating with federal officials with regard to the |
28 | immigration status of any person within this state. |
29 | (2) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, a county |
30 | governmental entity or official may not prohibit or in any way |
31 | restrict or limit any governmental entity or government official |
32 | from sending to, or receiving from, the United States Department |
33 | of Homeland Security information regarding the citizenship or |
34 | immigration status of any individual. |
35 | Section 3. Section 166.04935, Florida Statutes, is created |
36 | to read: |
37 | 166.04935 Communicating or cooperating with federal |
38 | officials concerning immigration.-- |
39 | (1) A municipal government, whether acting through its |
40 | governing body or by an initiative, referendum, or any other |
41 | process, may not enact any ordinance or policy that limits, |
42 | restricts, or prohibits a law enforcement officer, local |
43 | official, or local government employee from communicating or |
44 | cooperating with federal officials with regard to the |
