Florida Senate - 2009 (PROPOSED COMMITTEE BILL) SPB 7016 FOR CONSIDERATION By the Committee on Agriculture 575-00130A-09 20097016__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to a review of the Department of 3 Citrus under the Florida Government Accountability 4 Act; reenacting ss. 20.29, 601.04, and 601.05, F.S., 5 relating to the Department of Citrus and the Florida 6 Citrus Commission; repealing s. 601.154, F.S., 7 relating to the Citrus Stabilization Act of Florida; 8 providing an effective date. 9 10 WHEREAS, ss. 11.901-11.920, Florida Statutes, the Florida 11 Government Accountability Act, subjects the Department of Citrus 12 and its respective advisory committees to a sunset review 13 process in order to determine whether the agency should be 14 retained, modified, or abolished, and 15 WHEREAS, the Department of Citrus produced a report 16 providing specific information, as enumerated in s. 11.906, 17 Florida Statutes, and 18 WHEREAS, upon receipt of the report, the Joint Legislative 19 Sunset Committee and committees of the Senate and the House of 20 Representatives assigned to act as sunset review committees 21 reviewed the report and requested studies by the Office of 22 Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability, and 23 WHEREAS, based on the department's report, studies of the 24 Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability, 25 and public input, the Joint Legislative Sunset Committee and 26 legislative sunset review committees made recommendations on the 27 abolition, continuation, or reorganization of the Department of 28 Citrus and its advisory committees; on the need for the 29 functions performed by the agency and its advisory committees; 30 and on the consolidation, transfer, or reorganization of 31 programs within the Department of Citrus, NOW, THEREFORE, 32 33 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 34 35 Section 1. Sections 20.29, 601.04, and 601.05, Florida 36 Statutes, are reenacted. 37 Section 2. Section 601.154, Florida Statutes, is repealed. 38 Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law. 39
