5 | (d) Enhance Florida's defense economy. |
6 | (2) MEMBERSHIP.-- |
7 | (a) The council shall be composed of nine members. The |
8 | President of the Senate, the Speaker of the House of |
9 | Representatives, and the Governor shall each appoint three |
10 | members as follows: |
11 | 1. The President of the Senate shall appoint one member of |
12 | the Senate, one community representative from a community-based |
13 | defense support organization, and one member who is a retired |
14 | military general or flag-rank officer residing in this state or |
15 | an executive officer of a defense contracting firm doing |
16 | significant business in this state. |
17 | 2. The Speaker of the House of Representatives shall |
18 | appoint one member of the House of Representatives, one |
19 | community representative from a community-based defense support |
20 | organization, and one member who is a retired military general |
21 | or flag-rank officer residing in this state or an executive |
22 | officer of a defense contracting firm doing significant business |
23 | in this state. |
24 | 3. The Governor shall appoint the director or designee of |
25 | the Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development, the vice |
26 | chairperson or designee of Enterprise Florida, Inc., and one at- |
27 | large member. |
28 | (b) Each of the appointed legislative members shall serve |
29 | for a term of 2 years, commencing July 1 of each odd-numbered |
30 | year. Each of the other appointed members shall serve for a term |
31 | of 4 years, commencing July 1 in the year of appointment. A |
32 | vacancy shall be filled for the remainder of the unexpired term |
33 | in the same manner as the initial appointment. All members of |
34 | the council are eligible for reappointment. |
35 | (c) Members of the council shall elect a chair and vice |
36 | chair to serve for terms of 2 years. The chair and vice chair |
37 | are eligible to succeed themselves. |
38 | (d) The members of the council shall serve without |
39 | compensation but are entitled to reimbursement for per diem and |
40 | travel expenses in accordance with s. 112.061, which shall be |
41 | paid by the appointing legislative chamber or the Executive |
42 | Office of the Governor, as appropriate. |
43 | (e) The Office of Tourism, Trade, and Economic Development |
44 | shall provide administrative support to the council. |
45 | (f) The Secretary of Community Affairs or his or her |
46 | designee, the Secretary of Environmental Protection or his or |
47 | her designee, the Secretary of Transportation or his or her |
48 | designee, the Adjutant General of the state or his or her |
49 | designee, and the executive director of the Department of |
50 | Veterans' Affairs or his or her designee shall attend meetings |
51 | held by the council and provide |
