    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to resident status for tuition
    3         purposes; amending s. 1009.21, F.S.; providing that
    4         veterans of the Armed Services of the United States
    5         and the United States Reserve Forces and their spouses
    6         and dependents who attend a public or private college,
    7         university, or institution of higher learning are
    8         residents for tuition purposes; providing an effective
    9         date.

   11  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   12         
   13         Section 1. Present paragraphs (c) through (k) of subsection
   14  (10) of section 1009.21, Florida Statutes, are redesignated as
   15  paragraphs (d) through (l), respectively, and a new paragraph
   16  (c) is added to that subsection, to read:
   17         1009.21 Determination of resident status for tuition
   18  purposes.—Students shall be classified as residents or
   19  nonresidents for the purpose of assessing tuition in community
   20  colleges and state universities.
   21         (10) The following persons shall be classified as residents
   22  for tuition purposes:
   23         (c)Veterans of the Armed Services of the United States and
   24  the United States Reserve Forces and their spouses and
   25  dependents who attend a public or private college, university,
   26  or institution of higher learning.
   27         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
