House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the contributions of the Florida
3Nurses Association on its 100th anniversary.

5     WHEREAS, since its inception on March 1, 1909, in
6Jacksonville, Florida, the Florida Nurses Association has been a
7highly respected professional organization that serves and
8supports all registered nurses through professional development,
9advocacy, and the promotion of excellence at every level of
10professional nursing practice, and
11     WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association was instrumental in
12developing and encouraging the Legislature to pass Florida's
13first Nurse Practice Act in 1913, which protects the public by
14regulating the practice of professional nursing, and
15     WHEREAS, fueled by the commitment and strength of the
16professional nurses that comprise its membership, the Florida
17Nurses Association is a strong voice for the nurses of the
18state, and
19     WHEREAS, the members of the Florida Nurses Association
20carry on the work of the association through community service,
21political involvement, healthcare advocacy and education, and
22mentoring, and
23     WHEREAS, the members of the Florida Nurses Association are
24registered nurses from all levels of professional nursing
25practice, encompassing the full spectrum of education, training,
26experience, and specialty areas, who collectively strive to
27advance the profession of nursing to ensure the delivery of the
28highest quality nursing care, and
29     WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association has represented
30registered nurses before the Florida Legislature as well as the
31executive branch of state government in order to advance the
32nursing profession and to advocate for the patients its members
33serve, and
34     WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association will celebrate its
35100 anniversary at its biennial convention at the Tradewinds
36Beach Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida, on September 22-26,

39Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
40Florida:

42     That the House of Representatives recognizes the 100th
43anniversary of the establishment of the Florida Nurses
44Association and commends the association for its contribution to
45the advancement of the profession of nursing and to the health
46and well-being of Florida's citizens.
47     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
48presented to the Florida Nurses Association as a tangible token
49of the sentiments expressed herein.
