1	House Resolution
2	A resolution recognizing the contributions of the Florida
3	Nurses Association on its 100th anniversary.

5	WHEREAS, since its inception on March 1, 1909, in
6	Jacksonville, Florida, the Florida Nurses Association has been a
7	highly respected professional organization that serves and
8	supports all registered nurses through professional development,
9	advocacy, and the promotion of excellence at every level of
10	professional nursing practice, and
11	WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association was instrumental in
12	developing and encouraging the Legislature to pass Florida's
13	first Nurse Practice Act in 1913, which protects the public by
14	regulating the practice of professional nursing, and
15	WHEREAS, fueled by the commitment and strength of the
16	professional nurses that comprise its membership, the Florida
17	Nurses Association is a strong voice for the nurses of the
18	state, and
19	WHEREAS, the members of the Florida Nurses Association
20	carry on the work of the association through community service,
21	political involvement, healthcare advocacy and education, and
22	mentoring, and
23	WHEREAS, the members of the Florida Nurses Association are
24	registered nurses from all levels of professional nursing
25	practice, encompassing the full spectrum of education, training,
26	experience, and specialty areas, who collectively strive to
27	advance the profession of nursing to ensure the delivery of the
28	highest quality nursing care, and
29	WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association has represented
30	registered nurses before the Florida Legislature as well as the
31	executive branch of state government in order to advance the
32	nursing profession and to advocate for the patients its members
33	serve, and
34	WHEREAS, the Florida Nurses Association will celebrate its
35	100 anniversary at its biennial convention at the Tradewinds
36	Beach Resort in St. Petersburg, Florida, on September 22-26,
37	2009, NOW, THEREFORE,

39	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
40	Florida:

42	That the House of Representatives recognizes the 100th
43	anniversary of the establishment of the Florida Nurses
44	Association and commends the association for its contribution to
45	the advancement of the profession of nursing and to the health
46	and well-being of Florida's citizens.
47	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
48	presented to the Florida Nurses Association as a tangible token
49	of the sentiments expressed herein.
