House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing Palm Beach County on the occasion
3of its Centennial celebration.

5     WHEREAS, Palm Beach County was established on July 1, 1909,
6following the signing of the Palm Beach County Charter on April
730, 1909, and
8     WHEREAS, the development of Palm Beach County coincided
9with the realization of railroad tycoon and Palm Beach resident
10Henry Flagler's vision of establishing a railroad line from
11Jacksonville to Key West, and
12     WHEREAS, with a total area of 2,386 square miles, Palm
13Beach County is the largest county in Florida by area and one of
14the most ecologically and economically diverse, and
15     WHEREAS, Palm Beach County is composed of 38 incorporated
16municipalities, from the Village of Tequesta in the north to the
17City of Boca Raton in the south and including the cities of
18Atlantis, Belle Glade, Boynton Beach, Delray Beach, Greenacres,
19Lake Worth, Pahokee, Palm Beach Gardens, Riviera Beach, South
20Bay, and West Palm Beach, the towns of Briny Breezes, Cloud
21Lake, Glen Ridge, Gulf Stream, Haverhill, Highland Beach,
22Hypoluxo, Juno Beach, Jupiter, Jupiter Inlet Colony, Lake Clarke
23Shores, Lake Park, Lantana, Loxahatchee Groves, Manalapan,
24Mangonia Park, Ocean Ridge, Palm Beach, Palm Beach Shores, and
25South Palm Beach, and the villages of Golf, North Palm Beach,
26Palm Springs, Royal Palm Beach, and Wellington, and several
27unincorporated areas, and
28     WHEREAS, Palm Beach County has shown a dramatic growth in
29population, from 5,577 in 1910 to approximately 1.3 million in
302009, and
31     WHEREAS, Palm Beach County is a significant contributor to
32the State of Florida's overall economic health, rich history,
33and cultural diversity, and its county seat, West Palm Beach, is
34the oldest incorporated municipality in South Florida, NOW,
35THEREFORE,

37Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38Florida:

40     That the Florida House of Representatives hereby recognizes
41Palm Beach County on the occasion of its Centennial celebration
42and honors the residents, community leaders, and elected
43officials of Palm Beach County for its 100 years of distinctive
44history.
