House Resolution
2A resolution designating Wednesday, April 1, 2009, and
3Thursday, April 2, 2009, as "Miami-Dade County Days."

5     WHEREAS, Greater Miami-Dade County contains thousands of
6businesses that employ millions of people and is the site of
7foreign consulates, international trade offices, and bi-national
8chambers of commerce, and
9     WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a center of world finance,
10with hundreds of financial institutions and foreign agencies
11within its boundaries, and
12     WHEREAS, the film and music industry have made Miami-Dade
13County one of the largest production centers in the nation, and
14     WHEREAS, agriculture continues to provide millions in
15economic activity to Miami-Dade County, and the agricultural
16industry has diversified in such a manner that Miami-Dade County
17is now one of the largest producers in the United States of
18tropical fruits, ornamental plants, and fish, and
19     WHEREAS, manufacturing is also a key industry in Miami-Dade
20County, with thousands of companies employing tens of thousands
21of individuals in manufacturing jobs, and
22     WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is currently experiencing a
23cultural boom in world-class entertainment and cultural
24activities, which is evidenced by the thousands of nonprofit
25cultural organizations offering dance, theater, music, and
26visual arts, and festivals and special events, and
27     WHEREAS, the Miami-Dade County community is a microcosm of
28the world, in which hundreds of countries are represented, and
29diverse languages are spoken daily, and
30     WHEREAS, 20 years ago the late Representative John F.
31Cosgrove, as chair of the then Dade County legislative
32delegation, worked with the private sector to create what is now
33Miami-Dade County Days in Tallahassee, NOW, THEREFORE,

35Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
36Florida:

38     That Wednesday, April 1, 2009, and Thursday, April 2, 2009,
39are designated as "Miami-Dade County Days."
