House Resolution
2A resolution congratulating Erica White for being the
3first woman from Jacksonville to be drafted by the Women's
4National Basketball Association.

6     WHEREAS, Jean Ribault High School in Jacksonville has long
7been recognized for its winning tradition in both girls' and
8boys' basketball, and
9     WHEREAS, the Jean Ribault High School Girls' Basketball
10Team continued this tradition of athletic excellence with the
11help of the then McDonald's All-American, Erica White, who led
12the high school to three consecutive state championships from
132001 to 2003, and
14     WHEREAS, following her graduation from Jean Ribault High
15School, Erica White attended Louisiana State University, where
16she played for the Lady Tigers' basketball team and helped the
17Tigers reach the Final Four during each of her four college
18seasons, and
19     WHEREAS, the Jacksonville native made history in 2008 as
20the first woman selected from that proud city into the Women's
21National Basketball Association, taken by the Houston Comets as
22the 17th overall pick of only 42 selections among 14 WNBA teams,
23and
24     WHEREAS, having spent the 2008-2009 offseason overseas
25playing professionally in Netanya, Israel, Erica White will
26return to the United States to continue her successful career
27playing for the WNBA's Indiana Fever, NOW, THEREFORE,

29Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30Florida:

32     That the Florida House of Representatives commends Erica
33White for her many athletic accomplishments and congratulates
34her on being the first woman from Jacksonville to be drafted by
35the Women's National Basketball Association.
36     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
37presented to Erica White and to the Jean Ribault High School
38Athletic Department as a tangible token of the sentiments
39expressed herein.
