House Resolution
2A resolution commending Olympic Gold Medalist Ryan Lochte.

4     WHEREAS, American swimmer Ryan Lochte from Daytona Beach is
5a multiple world record holder and an Olympic Gold Medalist, and
6     WHEREAS, Ryan Lochte, who currently trains in Gainesville,
7swam for Daytona Beach Swimming as an age-group swimmer where he
8was first coached by his father, Steve Lochte, and
9     WHEREAS, Ryan Lochte, who graduated from the University of
10Florida, was a member of the university's nationally recognized
11men's swim team under Head Coach Gregg Troy, and
12     WHEREAS, named NCAA swimmer of the year in 2005 and 2006,
13Ryan Lochte set U.S. Open and American records at the 2006 NCAA
14Men's Swimming and Diving Championships, and
15     WHEREAS, Ryan Lochte made his Olympic debut in the 2004
16Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, winning the silver medal
17in the 200 meter individual medley and helping his teammates
18capture the gold medal in the 4 x 200 meter freestyle relay, and
19     WHEREAS, having set world records at the 2006 FINA Short
20Course World Championships, Ryan Lochte set one long course
21world record in the 200 meter backstroke at the 2007 World
22Championships in Melbourne, Australia, and
23     WHEREAS, continuing his dominance in the pool, Ryan Lochte
24set three short course world records at the 2008 FINA Short
25Course World Championships in Manchester, England, winning four
26gold and two silver medals at the meet, and
27     WHEREAS, having qualified for the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team in
28three individual events, finishing second in all three at the
29U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Ryan set his sights on the Olympic
30Games and decided he wouldn't settle for second place, and
31     WHEREAS, at the 2008 Summer Olympics held in Beijing,
32China, Ryan Lochte won the 200 meter backstroke in world record
33time, earning his first individual Olympic Gold Medal, and
34     WHEREAS, Ryan Lochte finished the Olympic Games with bronze
35medals in the 200 meter individual medley and the 400 meter
36individual medley and another gold medal in the 4 x 200 meter
37freestyle relay in which he and his teammates shattered the
38world record, and
39     WHEREAS, Ryan Lochte's laid-back demeanor out of the pool,
40combined with his confidence that he can win when he gets behind
41the blocks, have made him one of the world's best swimmers, NOW,
42THEREFORE,

44Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
45Florida:

47     That the members of the House of Representatives commend
48Ryan Lochte for his dedication and athletic excellence and
49congratulate him for winning an Olympic Gold Medal.
50     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
51presented to Ryan Lochte as a tangible token of the sentiments
52expressed herein.
