3     Amendment (with title amendment)
4     Between lines 356 and 357, insert:
5     Section 8.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section
61006.40, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:
7     1006.40  Use of instructional materials allocation;
8instructional materials, library books, and reference books;
9repair of books.--
10     (2)(a)  Each district school board must purchase current
11instructional materials to provide each student with a textbook
12or other instructional materials as a major tool of instruction
13in core courses of the appropriate subject areas of mathematics,
14language arts, science, social studies, reading, and literature
15for kindergarten through grade 12. Such purchase must be made
16within the first 2 years after of the effective date of the
17adoption cycle; however, this requirement is waived for the
18adoption cycle occurring in the 2008-2009 and the 2009-2010
19academic years. Unless specifically provided for in the General
20Appropriations Act, the cost of instructional materials
21purchases required by this paragraph shall not exceed the amount
22of the district's allocation for instructional materials,
23pursuant to s. 1011.67, for the previous 2 years.

30the 2008-2009 and the 2009-2010 academic years, the requirement
