A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to Grayton Beach State Park; redesignating
3Grayton Beach State Park as Bob Graham/Grayton Beach State
4Park; directing the Division of Recreation and Parks of
5the Department of Environmental Protection to erect
6appropriate signs and markers; providing an effective
7date.

9     WHEREAS, Bob Graham's roots in Walton County go back for
10generations, and
11     WHEREAS, in the 1890s, Bob Graham's grandfather, Dr. Daniel
12Simmons, opened a medical practice in Freeport, and
13     WHEREAS, Bob Graham's mother and her five siblings were
14born in Walton County and his mother graduated from Walton
15County High School in 1924, and
16     WHEREAS, in 1985, as Governor, Bob Graham strongly
17supported the efforts of the residents of Walton County to
18encourage the state to purchase the beachfront and the dunes and
19forest land adjacent to Grayton Beach State Park, and
20     WHEREAS, this valuable addition to the park might never
21have occurred without Bob Graham's personal involvement, and
22     WHEREAS, Bob Graham, as a former United States Senator,
23Governor, State Senator, and State Representative for Florida,
24is recognized as one of the state's most popular political
25leaders and environmental policy advocates, NOW, THEREFORE,

27Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

29     Section 1.  Bob Graham/Grayton Beach State Park
30designation.-
31     (1)  Grayton Beach State Park is redesignated as the Bob
32Graham/Grayton Beach State Park.
33     (2)  The Division of Recreation and Parks of the Department
34of Environmental Protection is directed to erect appropriate
35signs and markers designating the Bob Graham/Grayton Beach State
36Park as described in subsection (1).
37     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
