| 2 | An act relating to massage therapy; amending s. 480.041, |
| 3 | F.S.; revising the qualifications for licensure of massage |
| 4 | therapists; requiring that the licensing examination be |
| 5 | approved by the Board of Massage Therapy; deleting a |
| 6 | requirement that the examination be administered by the |
| 7 | Department of Health; exempting persons from the |
| 8 | examination upon completion of certain courses of study at |
| 9 | certain accredited massage schools; providing an effective |
| 10 | date. |

| 12 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 13 |
|
| 14 | Section 1. Subsection (1) of section 480.041, Florida |
| 15 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
| 16 | 480.041 Massage therapists; qualifications; licensure; |
| 17 | endorsement.-- |
| 18 | (1) Any person is qualified for licensure as a massage |
| 19 | therapist under this act who: |
| 20 | (a) Is at least 18 years of age or has received a high |
| 21 | school diploma or graduate equivalency diploma; |
| 22 | (b) Has completed a course of study at a board-approved |
| 23 | massage school or has completed an apprenticeship program that |
| 24 | meets standards adopted by the board; and |
| 25 | (c) Has received a passing grade on a board-approved an |
| 26 | examination or has completed a course of study at a board- |
| 27 | approved massage school that is accredited by an accrediting |
| 28 | agency recognized by the United States Department of Education |
| 29 | administered by the department. |
| 30 | Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010. |
