Florida Senate - 2010 (NP) SR 1480 By Senator Bullard 39-01082-10 20101480__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution expressing support for the Coalition of 3 Immokalee Workers and the Student/Farmworker Alliance 4 in their efforts to raise awareness of the working 5 conditions of Florida’s farmworkers. 6 7 WHEREAS, more than two million migrant and seasonal 8 farmworkers labor in the fields, orchards, vineyards, and groves 9 across our nation, and 10 WHEREAS, the average wage of migrant and seasonal 11 farmworkers in the United States is $11,000, with the majority 12 not receiving health insurance coverage and lacking many of the 13 protections afforded other workers, and 14 WHEREAS, a healthy and thriving agricultural industry in 15 Florida must be built on sustainable systems and must not come 16 at the expense of farmworkers and their families, and 17 WHEREAS, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the 18 Student/Farmworker Alliance are working tirelessly to raise 19 awareness of the working conditions of Florida’s farmworkers and 20 to promote agricultural standards and business practices that 21 protect farmworkers and elevate the standing of Florida’s 22 agricultural industry, NOW, THEREFORE, 23 24 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 25 26 That the Senate supports the tireless efforts of the 27 Coalition of Immokalee Workers and the Student/Farmworker 28 Alliance in their efforts to raise awareness of the working 29 conditions of Florida’s farmworkers.
