    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to designations of state facilities;
    3         designating the Bob Graham Grayton Beach State Park in
    4         Walton County; directing the Department of
    5         Environmental Protection to erect markers; providing
    6         an effective date.

    8         WHEREAS, in 1985, Governor Bob Graham strongly supported
    9  Walton County residents’ efforts to encourage the state to
   10  purchase Grayton’s beachfront and the dunes and forest land to
   11  the west and north of the existing park, and
   12         WHEREAS, this most valuable addition to the park might
   13  never have occurred without Bob Graham’s personal involvement,
   14  and
   15         WHEREAS, Bob Graham’s roots in Walton County go back to the
   16  1890s when his grandfather, Daniel Simmons, M.D., opened a
   17  medical practice in Freeport, Bob Graham’s mother and her five
   18  siblings were born in Walton County, his mother graduated from
   19  Walton County High School in 1924, and members of the family
   20  lived in north and south Walton County, and
   21         WHEREAS, Bob Graham is recognized as one of Florida’s
   22  greatest and most popular governors, NOW, THEREFORE,

   24  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   25  
   26         Section 1. Bob Graham Grayton Beach State Park designated;
   27  Department of Environmental Protection to erect suitable
   28  markers.—
   29         (1)The Grayton Beach State Park in Walton County is
   30  designated as theBob Graham Grayton Beach State Park.”
   31         (2)The Department of Environmental Protection is directed
   32  to erect suitable markers designating the Bob Graham Grayton
   33  Beach State Park as described in subsection (1).
   34         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
