Florida Senate - 2010 CS for SB 1882 By the Committee on Environmental Preservation and Conservation; and Senator Gaetz 592-03147-10 20101882c1 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to state park designations; 3 designating the Bob Graham Grayton Beach State Park in 4 Walton County; designating the Jack Mashburn Marina 5 within St. Andrew’s State Park; directing the 6 Department of Environmental Protection to erect 7 appropriate signs and markers; providing an effective 8 date. 9 10 WHEREAS, in 1985, Governor Bob Graham strongly supported 11 Walton County residents’ efforts to encourage the state to 12 purchase Grayton’s beachfront and the dunes and forest land to 13 the west and north of the existing park, and 14 WHEREAS, this most valuable addition to the park might 15 never have occurred without Bob Graham’s personal involvement, 16 and 17 WHEREAS, Bob Graham’s roots in Walton County go back to the 18 1890s when his grandfather, Daniel Simmons, M.D., opened a 19 medical practice in Freeport, Bob Graham’s mother and her five 20 siblings were born in Walton County, his mother graduated from 21 Walton County High School in 1924, and members of the family 22 lived in north and south Walton County, and 23 WHEREAS, Bob Graham is recognized as one of Florida’s 24 greatest and most popular governors, NOW, THEREFORE, 25 26 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 27 28 Section 1. Bob Graham Grayton Beach State Park designated; 29 Department of Environmental Protection to erect suitable 30 markers.— 31 (1) The Grayton Beach State Park in Walton County is 32 designated as the “Bob Graham Grayton Beach State Park.” 33 (2) The Department of Environmental Protection is directed 34 to erect suitable markers designating the Bob Graham Grayton 35 Beach State Park as described in subsection (1). 36 Section 2. Jack Mashburn Marina designation.— 37 (1) The marina at Grand Lagoon within St. Andrew’s State 38 Park, commonly referred to as the “boat basin,” is designated as 39 the “Jack Mashburn Marina.” 40 (2) The Department of Environmental Protection is directed 41 to erect appropriate signs and markers designating the Jack 42 Mashburn Marina as described in subsection (1). 43 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
