Florida Senate - 2010 SM 2222 By Senator Thrasher 8-01520-10 20102222__ 1 Senate Memorial 2 A memorial to the Congress of the United States, 3 petitioning that a convention be called pursuant to 4 Article V of the United States Constitution to 5 consider amending the United States Constitution to 6 limit the terms of members of the Congress of the 7 United States to 12 years; providing that the purview 8 of such convention be limited strictly to the 9 consideration of this amendment; providing that this 10 application to the Congress be a continuing 11 application until the convention herein applied for is 12 convened. 13 14 Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 15 16 That pursuant to Article V of the Constitution of the 17 United States, the Legislature of the State of Florida does 18 hereby apply to the Congress of the United States for a 19 convention to consider the following amendment to the United 20 States Constitution: 21 22 No person may appear on the ballot for re 23 election to the office of Representative or Senator 24 who, by the end of the current term of office, will 25 have served or, but for resignation, would have served 26 in that office for twelve consecutive years. 27 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the purview of any convention 29 called by the Congress pursuant to this memorial be strictly 30 limited to the consideration of an amendment of the nature as 31 herein proposed. 32 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this application by the 33 Legislature of the State of Florida constitutes a continuing 34 application pursuant to Article V of the United States 35 Constitution, until such time as two-thirds of the Legislatures 36 of the several states have made similar applications and the 37 convention herein applied for is convened. 38 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be 39 dispatched to the President of the United States, to the 40 President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the 41 United States House of Representatives, to each member of the 42 Florida delegation to the United States Congress, and to the 43 presiding officer of each house of each state legislature in the 44 United States.
