Florida Senate - 2010 CS for SB 2256 By the Committee on Environmental Preservation and Conservation; and Senator Baker 592-05313-10 20102256c1 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to state parks; creating s. 258.0145, 3 F.S.; providing discounts on annual passes for members 4 and veterans of the United States Armed Forces and 5 reserve forces and for surviving spouses of certain 6 veterans; amending s. 258.004, F.S.; providing 7 additional duties of the Division of Recreation and 8 Parks of the Department of Environmental Protection; 9 providing an effective date. 10 11 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 12 13 Section 1. Section 258.0145, Florida Statutes, is created 14 to read: 15 258.0145 Military state park fee discounts.—The Division of 16 Recreation and Parks shall provide the following discounts on 17 park fees to persons who present written documentation 18 satisfactory to the division which evidences their eligibility 19 for the discounts: 20 (1) Active duty members and honorably discharged veterans 21 of the United States Armed Forces, National Guard, or reserve 22 components thereof shall receive a 25 percent discount on annual 23 entrance passes. 24 (2) Honorably discharged veterans who have service 25 connected disabilities shall receive lifetime family annual 26 entrance passes at no charge. 27 (3) Surviving spouses of deceased members of the United 28 States Armed Forces, National Guard, or reserve components 29 thereof who have fallen in combat shall receive lifetime family 30 annual entrance passes at no charge. 31 Section 2. Subsections (3) through (7) are added to section 32 258.004, Florida Statutes, to read: 33 258.004 Duties of division.— 34 (3) The Division of Recreation and Parks shall study and 35 appraise the recreation needs of the state and assemble and 36 disseminate information relative to recreation. 37 (4) The Division of Recreation and Parks shall provide 38 consultation assistance to the Department of Community Affairs 39 and to local governing units as to the protection, organization, 40 and administration of local recreation systems and the planning 41 and design of local recreation areas and facilities. 42 (5) The Division of Recreation and Parks shall assist in 43 recruiting, training, and placing recreation personnel. 44 (6) The Division of Recreation and Parks shall sponsor and 45 promote recreation institutes, workshops, seminars, and 46 conferences throughout the state. 47 (7) The Division of Recreation and Parks shall cooperate 48 with state and federal agencies, private organizations, and 49 commercial and industrial interests in the promotion of a state 50 recreation program. 51 Section 3. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
