    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to a nonbinding statewide advisory
    3         referendum; requiring that a question regarding a
    4         balanced federal budget be printed on the ballot and
    5         submitted to the voters in the 2010 general election;
    6         providing an appropriation; providing an effective
    7         date.

    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10  
   11         Section 1. Nonbinding statewide advisory referendum.—At the
   12  2010 general election, the following question shall be printed
   13  on the ballot and submitted to the voters:
   14  
   15                    BALANCING THE FEDERAL BUDGET                   
   16          A NONBINDING REFERENDUM CALLING FOR AN AMENDMENT         
   17                  TO THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION                
   18  
   19         In order to stop the uncontrolled growth of our
   20         national debt and prevent excessive borrowing by the
   21         Federal Government, which threatens jobs, robs America
   22         and our children of their opportunity for success, and
   23         threatens our national security, should the United
   24         States Constitution be amended to require a balanced
   25         federal budget without raising taxes?

   29         Section 2. The sum of $80,000 is appropriated from the
   30  General Revenue Fund to the Department of State to provide funds
   31  to the department and to the counties to offset the costs of
   32  including this question on the ballot.
   33         Section 3. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law.
