Florida Senate - 2010 (NP) SR 2810 By Senator Richter 37-02262C-10 20102810__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing the outstanding achievements 3 in educational leadership of Cynthia Phillips-Luster 4 and Priscilla Ribeiro and congratulating them on their 5 recognition by the Florida Department of Education. 6 7 WHEREAS, schools need highly effective principals and 8 assistant principals in order to help spearhead the success of 9 their students, and 10 WHEREAS, the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding 11 Leadership was established in 1988 to recognize exemplary 12 principals for their contributions to their schools and 13 communities, and 14 WHEREAS, the Outstanding Assistant Principal Achievement 15 Award was established in 1997 to recognize exemplary assistant 16 principals for their contributions to their schools and 17 communities, and 18 WHEREAS, these programs honor school leaders who organize 19 and carry out initiatives to increase student performance, 20 promote safe learning environments, and establish partnerships 21 with parents and community members, and 22 WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education has recognized 23 Cynthia Phillips-Luster, the principal of James Stephens 24 International Academy in Lee County, which serves more than 700 25 students in grades K-8, and 26 WHEREAS, Principal Phillips-Luster is a leader who honors 27 diversity, can solve complex problems related to the educational 28 process, has mastered the use of technology in retrieving data 29 to make important decisions about learning for all students, and 30 has led her teachers and students to ever-increasing levels of 31 achievement, and 32 WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education has also 33 recognized Priscilla Ribeiro, the assistant principal of Cypress 34 Bay High School in Broward County, which serves more than 3,700 35 students in grades 9-12, and 36 WHEREAS, Assistant Principal Ribeiro is dedicated to 37 children, committed to equity and access for all students so 38 that they may achieve their highest goals, possesses superior 39 interpersonal skills with all stakeholders in the community, 40 shows compassion for students and adults, has the ability to 41 motivate the faculty and students, incorporates innovative 42 programs, and maintains a sense of accountability in all of her 43 work, and 44 WHEREAS, the Principal and Assistant Principal recognition 45 programs raise awareness of extraordinary individuals serving in 46 our public schools, NOW, THEREFORE, 47 48 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 49 50 That, the Senate recognizes and congratulates Cynthia 51 Phillips-Luster and Priscilla Ribeiro on their recognition by 52 the Florida Department of Education.
