Florida Senate - 2010 (NP) SR 2834 By Senator Diaz de la Portilla 36-03851-10 20102834__ 1 Senate Resolution 2 A resolution recognizing April 21 and 22, 2010, as 3 “Miami-Dade County Days” in Florida. 4 5 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is home to thousands of 6 businesses, from corporate giants to family owned “moms and 7 pops,” and is the site of foreign consulates, international 8 trade offices, and multinational chambers of commerce, and 9 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a center of world finance, 10 with hundreds of financial institutions and foreign agencies 11 located within its boundaries, and 12 WHEREAS, the music and film industries have made Miami-Dade 13 County one of the largest audio and video production centers in 14 the nation, and 15 WHEREAS, the vast and soaring skyline and burgeoning 16 population belies a thriving agricultural industry that 17 continues to provide hundreds of millions of dollars of economic 18 activity annually, with Miami-Dade County one of the largest 19 producers in the nation of tropical fruits, ornamental plants, 20 and fish, and 21 WHEREAS, manufacturing remains a vital segment of the 22 Miami-Dade County economy, and 23 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is experiencing a cultural boom, 24 hosting world-class entertainment, cultural activities, 25 festivals, and special events, and supporting a host of 26 nonprofit, cultural organizations that offer dance, theatre, 27 music, and visual arts, and 28 WHEREAS, Miami-Dade County is a multicultural microcosm of 29 the world where many languages are spoken and where the 30 population is representative of hundreds of countries around the 31 globe, and 32 WHEREAS, the celebration of Miami-Dade County Days in 33 Tallahassee was the brainchild of the late Representative John 34 Cosgrove, who, as chair of the Dade County Legislative 35 Delegation, worked with the private sector to create what has 36 become a highly anticipated annual event, NOW, THEREFORE, 37 38 Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida: 39 40 That April 21 and 22, 2010, are recognized as “Miami-Dade 41 County Days” in Florida.
