Florida Senate - 2010 SB 498 By Senator Aronberg 27-00265-10 2010498__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to standards for drywall; creating s. 3 553.887, F.S.; directing the Florida Building 4 Commission, in consultation with the Department of 5 Health, to prohibit by rule in the Florida Building 6 Code the use of drywall that exceeds certain limits 7 established for emissions or the content of sulfur or 8 strontium compounds; providing an effective date. 9 10 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 11 12 Section 1. Section 553.887, Florida Statutes, is created to 13 read: 14 553.887 Drywall emission standards.—The commission, in 15 consultation with the Department of Health, shall adopt a rule 16 in the Florida Building Code establishing emission standards for 17 drywall. The rule shall prohibit the use of drywall that exceeds 18 limits established for emissions or content of sulfur or 19 strontium compounds in drywall used in structures governed by 20 the code. The standard shall be designed to prevent adverse 21 health effects, obnoxious odors, and the corrosion of metal 22 items caused by sulfur or strontium compounds. 23 Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
