A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to victim advocate services; creating s.
31006.671, F.S.; requiring that each postsecondary
4educational institution provide an advocate to assist
5students who are victims of violent crime; requiring that
6the advocate complete a specified number of hours in
7victim advocacy training and enlist the assistance of
8public and voluntary health, education, welfare, and
9rehabilitation agencies or groups and law enforcement
10agencies; requiring that an advocate be made available on
11any campus that provides student housing or has a minimum
12number of full-time students; providing an effective date.

14Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

16     Section 1.  Section 1006.671, Florida Statutes, is created
17to read:
18     1006.671  Victim advocate services.-Each postsecondary
19educational institution shall provide an advocate to aid
20students who are victims of violent crime. The victim advocate
21must have completed at least 30 hours of victim advocacy
22training and shall enlist the assistance of public and voluntary
23health, education, welfare, and rehabilitation agencies or
24groups and law enforcement agencies in coordinating services. An
25advocate must be made available on any campus that provides
26student housing or has 10,000 or more full-time students.
27     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2010.
