    1                          Senate Resolution                        
    2         A resolution recognizing Hillsborough Area Regional
    3         Transit for its designation as Florida’s best public
    4         transit system.
    5  
    6         WHEREAS, a vital public transit system is critical to the
    7  future of this nation, with public investment in public
    8  transportation strengthening the economy, creating jobs,
    9  reducing traffic congestion and air pollution, and saving
   10  energy, and
   11         WHEREAS, in major metropolitan areas, public transit is an
   12  essential transportation option that can cut through congestion
   13  to provide access to job markets and remove auto trips from the
   14  highway system, thereby helping to maintain highway capacity for
   15  the shipment of goods and materials, and
   16         WHEREAS, in 2007, David Armijo brought his vision for
   17  public transit in the Tampa Bay area to Hillsborough Area
   18  Regional Transit (HART) as its chief executive officer, and
   19         WHEREAS, under David Armijo’s leadership, HART has improved
   20  efficiency and effectiveness, enhanced customer service, and
   21  instituted the highest standards of financial management, and
   22         WHEREAS, the Florida Public Transportation Association on
   23  November 10, 2009, recognized HART as the state’s best, naming
   24  it the Outstanding Transit System, NOW, THEREFORE,
   25  
   26  Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
   27  
   28         That the management team and staff of Hillsborough Area
   29  Regional Transit are commended for their outstanding
   30  achievements that have earned the designation as “Outstanding
   31  Transit System” by the Florida Public Transportation
   32  Association.
   33         BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
   34  the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Hillsborough
   35  Area Regional Transit as a tangible token of the sentiments of
   36  the Florida Senate.
