6 | WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz, a Jacksonville native born |
7 | on January 16, 1929, was a graduate of Jacksonville's Bolles |
8 | School and Princeton University and attended the University of |
9 | Florida College of Law, and |
10 | WHEREAS, before entering law school, Frederick H. Schultz |
11 | joined the United States Army, serving as an artillery officer |
12 | in the Korean Conflict and earning a Bronze Star, and |
13 | WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz embarked on a remarkable |
14 | business career that included founding Florida Wire and Cable, |
15 | Platt Pontiac, and Florida Trend Magazine and serving as a |
16 | director of Barnett Bank, American Heritage Life, Southeast |
17 | Atlantic Beverage, Transco Energy, and Florida Steel, and |
18 | WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz was elected to the Florida |
19 | House of Representatives in 1963, where his leadership abilities |
20 | were immediately recognized and he enjoyed a rapid rise to |
21 | prominence, culminating with his election as Speaker of the |
22 | House of Representatives in 1968, and |
23 | WHEREAS, a longtime advocate of education, Frederick H. |
24 | Schultz sponsored legislation that created the University of |
25 | North Florida and what is now Florida State College at |
26 | Jacksonville and worked to improve the method for funding public |
27 | education, and |
28 | WHEREAS, focused on education as a vehicle for improving |
29 | the community, Frederick H. Schultz established the Schultz |
30 | Center for Teaching and Leadership, a professional development |
31 | facility for teachers and school leaders in Northeast Florida, |
32 | and |
33 | WHEREAS, United States President Jimmy Carter nominated |
34 | Frederick H. Schultz to the Federal Reserve Board and, as |
35 | President Carter's "right-hand man at the Fed" from 1979 to |
36 | 1982, Frederick H. Schultz helped set the nation's monetary |
37 | policy, and |
38 | WHEREAS, during his many years of service to his community, |
39 | Frederick H. Schultz served as Chairman of the Jacksonville Area |
40 | Chamber of Commerce and spearheaded the founding of Leadership |
41 | Jacksonville and the Jacksonville Community Council, and |
42 | WHEREAS, Frederick H. Schultz died on November 23, 2009, |
43 | leaving a distinguished legacy of excellence in business and |
44 | public service to community, state, and country, NOW, THEREFORE, |

46 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

49 | That the House of Representatives recognizes and honors the |
50 | outstanding public service and lifetime achievements of |
51 | Frederick H. Schultz. |
52 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
53 | presented to Mrs. Nancy Schultz as a tangible token of the |
54 | sentiments expressed herein. |
