2A resolution recognizing Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.

4     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., was founded at
5Howard University in Washington, D.C., in 1908, and
6     WHEREAS, this Greek letter organization is the first
7sorority established by African American college women, and
8     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is an
9international organization that has about 250,000 members in
10more than 900 chapters in the United States, the Bahamas,
11Bermuda, Great Britain, Germany, Korea, and the Virgin Islands,
12and
13     WHEREAS, many of these chapters are located in communities
14and on college and university campuses in Florida, and
15     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., is committed to
16community service and has made numerous contributions to the
17educational, civic, and social lives of Floridians, and
18     WHEREAS, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., continues its
19support of the international program, "The SPIRIT of AKA," the
20acronym and concept for Sisterhood, Service, Partnership,
21Innovation, Respect, Involvement, and Technology, and
22     WHEREAS, bound by its humanitarianism and credo of service
23that extends to all mankind, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.,
24is playing a role in the relief efforts for the citizens of
25Haiti in the wake of the recent catastrophic earthquake, and
26     WHEREAS, Ella Springs Jones is the Centennial South
27Atlantic Regional Director of this great sisterhood and leads
28members of the sorority in Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina,
29and
30     WHEREAS, Representative Mia Jones, Representative Jennifer
31Carroll, and Representative Geraldine Thompson are members of
32Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., and
33     WHEREAS, members of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.,
34in Florida contribute thousands of volunteer hours implementing
35service programs in their respective communities, NOW,
36THEREFORE,

38Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
39Florida:

41     That the members of the Florida House of Representatives
42recognize the commitment of members of Alpha Kappa Alpha
43Sorority, Inc., to worldwide service and express special
44appreciation for their service in Florida.
