House Resolution
2A resolution declaring September 26, 2010, as
3"Mesothelioma Awareness Day" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, mesothelioma is a rare aggressive cancer often
6attributed to exposure to asbestos that affects the linings of
7the lungs, abdomen, esophagus, heart, and stomach, and
8     WHEREAS, between 2,000 and 3,000 Americans die each year
9from mesothelioma and up to 3,000 new cases of the disease are
10diagnosed each year in the United States, and
11     WHEREAS, there is no known cure for mesothelioma, and
12     WHEREAS, the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation, a
13national nonprofit collaboration of patients and families,
14physicians, advocates, and researchers was established to
15eradicate mesothelioma through the promotion of research,
16support of patients and caregivers, dissemination of the latest
17clinical information, and the sponsorship of an annual symposium
18to bring the world's leading mesothelioma experts together to
19discuss advances in treatment, and
20     WHEREAS, the establishment of Mesothelioma Awareness Day
21will raise public awareness of the disease and of the need to
22develop effective treatments for it, NOW, THEREFORE,

24Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
25Florida:

27     That September 26, 2010, is declared "Mesothelioma
28Awareness Day" in Florida.
