| 8 | WHEREAS, schools need highly effective principals and |
| 9 | assistant principals in order to promote and lead successful |
| 10 | students and schools, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education's Principal |
| 12 | Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership was established in |
| 13 | 1988 to recognize exemplary principals for their contributions |
| 14 | to their schools and communities, and |
| 15 | WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education's Outstanding |
| 16 | Assistant Principal Achievement Award was established in 1997 to |
| 17 | recognize exemplary assistant principals for their contributions |
| 18 | to a successful learning environment, and |
| 19 | WHEREAS, these programs honor school leaders who |
| 20 | consistently organize and carry out initiatives that increase |
| 21 | student performance, promote safe schools, and establish |
| 22 | partnerships with parents and community members, and |
| 23 | WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education presented the |
| 24 | 2010 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership to |
| 25 | Cynthia Phillips-Luster, of James Stephens International Academy |
| 26 | in Lee County, a school that serves more than 700 students in |
| 27 | grades K-8, and |
| 28 | WHEREAS, Principal Phillips-Luster is a leader who honors |
| 29 | diversity, can solve complex problems related to the educational |
| 30 | process, has mastered the use of technology in retrieving data |
| 31 | to make important decisions about learning for all students, and |
| 32 | has led her teachers and students to ever-increasing levels of |
| 33 | achievement, and |
| 34 | WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Education presented the |
| 35 | 2010 Assistant Principal Achievement Award to Priscilla Ribeiro, |
| 36 | of Cypress Bay High School in Broward County, a school that |
| 37 | serves more than 3,700 students in grades 9-12, and |
| 38 | WHEREAS, Assistant Principal Ribeiro is dedicated to |
| 39 | children, committed to equity and access for all students so |
| 40 | that they may achieve their highest goals, possesses superior |
| 41 | interpersonal skills with all stakeholders in the community, |
| 42 | shows compassion for students and adults, has the ability to |
| 43 | motivate the faculty and students, incorporates innovative |
| 44 | programs, and maintains a sense of accountability in all of her |
| 45 | work, and |
| 46 | WHEREAS, the Principal and Assistant Principal recognition |
| 47 | programs raise awareness of these extraordinary individuals and |
| 48 | elevate their standing in their communities and schools, NOW, |
| 49 | THEREFORE, |

| 51 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 52 | Florida: |

| 54 | That, on behalf of the residents of this state, the House |
| 55 | of Representatives recognizes and congratulates Cynthia |
| 56 | Phillips-Luster and Priscilla Ribeiro on their selection by the |
| 57 | Florida Department of Education as the 2010 Achievement Award |
| 58 | winners for outstanding leadership in education. |
