5 | WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death |
6 | among women in this nation, and |
7 | WHEREAS, although only 21 percent of women consider |
8 | cardiovascular disease their greatest health risk, |
9 | cardiovascular diseases claimed the lives of nearly 430,000 |
10 | American women in 2006, more than cancer, chronic lower |
11 | respiratory disease, Alzheimer's disease, and accidents |
12 | combined, and |
13 | WHEREAS, in 2010, the direct and indirect costs of |
14 | cardiovascular diseases and stroke in the United States are |
15 | estimated at over $503.2 billion, and |
16 | WHEREAS, the "Go Red For Women" campaign encourages women |
17 | to learn about the signs and symptoms of cardiovascular diseases |
18 | by using tools such as the "Go Red For Women" Heart CheckUp and |
19 | Choose To Move Countdown and by having an open dialogue with |
20 | their healthcare providers, and |
21 | WHEREAS, the goals of the "Go Red For Women" campaign of |
22 | increasing awareness and empowering women with the knowledge and |
23 | tools to reduce their risk for cardiovascular diseases can save |
24 | thousands of lives each year, NOW, THEREFORE, |

26 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
27 | Florida: |

29 | That in recognition of the importance of the ongoing fight |
30 | against cardiovascular diseases, March 26, 2010, is recognized |
31 | as "Go Red For Women Day" in the State of Florida, and all |
32 | citizens are encouraged to show their support for women and the |
33 | fight against cardiovascular diseases by commemorating this day |
34 | with the wearing of the color red. |
