2A resolution recognizing March 26, 2010, as "Go Red For
3Women Day" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, cardiovascular disease is a leading cause of death
6among women in this nation, and
7     WHEREAS, although only 21 percent of women consider
8cardiovascular disease their greatest health risk,
9cardiovascular diseases claimed the lives of nearly 430,000
10American women in 2006, more than cancer, chronic lower
11respiratory disease, Alzheimer's disease, and accidents
12combined, and
13     WHEREAS, in 2010, the direct and indirect costs of
14cardiovascular diseases and stroke in the United States are
15estimated at over $503.2 billion, and
16     WHEREAS, the "Go Red For Women" campaign encourages women
17to learn about the signs and symptoms of cardiovascular diseases
18by using tools such as the "Go Red For Women" Heart CheckUp and
19Choose To Move Countdown and by having an open dialogue with
20their healthcare providers, and
21     WHEREAS, the goals of the "Go Red For Women" campaign of
22increasing awareness and empowering women with the knowledge and
23tools to reduce their risk for cardiovascular diseases can save
24thousands of lives each year, NOW, THEREFORE,

26Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
27Florida:

29     That in recognition of the importance of the ongoing fight
30against cardiovascular diseases, March 26, 2010, is recognized
31as "Go Red For Women Day" in the State of Florida, and all
32citizens are encouraged to show their support for women and the
33fight against cardiovascular diseases by commemorating this day
34with the wearing of the color red.
