2 | A resolution recognizing and commending the individuals, |
3 | foundations, and corporate givers of the state for their |
4 | charitable acts that enrich the quality of life of all |
5 | Floridians. |

7 | WHEREAS, according to the National Center for Charitable |
8 | Statistics, Florida is home to over 71,000 nonprofit |
9 | organizations that provide an array of services such as feeding |
10 | the hungry, sheltering the homeless, supporting education and |
11 | research, and promoting the arts, and |
12 | WHEREAS, individuals, foundations, and corporations in |
13 | Florida donated approximately $17.7 billion to charitable |
14 | organizations in 2007, and |
15 | WHEREAS, individual giving accounted for almost 80 percent |
16 | of Florida's charitable gifts while charitable bequests |
17 | comprised approximately 12 percent, and foundations, |
18 | corporations, and other grant-making organizations provided the |
19 | remaining 8 percent, and |
20 | WHEREAS, 75 percent of Floridians gave money to a |
21 | charitable organization in 2008, and |
22 | WHEREAS, according to the Florida Philanthropic Network, |
23 | Florida has more than 4,000 active grant-making foundations and |
24 | corporate givers that distributed more than $1.4 billion in |
25 | grants to charitable organizations and causes in 2007,and |
26 | WHEREAS, individuals, foundations, and corporate givers |
27 | contribute to the state's economic and social systems in ways |
28 | that government and businesses cannot, NOW, THEREFORE, |

30 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
31 | Florida: |

33 | That the generous individuals, foundations, and corporate |
34 | givers of this state are recognized and commended for the many |
35 | charitable acts they perform that enrich the quality of life of |
36 | all Floridians. |
