House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing and commending the individuals,
3foundations, and corporate givers of the state for their
4charitable acts that enrich the quality of life of all
5Floridians.

7     WHEREAS, according to the National Center for Charitable
8Statistics, Florida is home to over 71,000 nonprofit
9organizations that provide an array of services such as feeding
10the hungry, sheltering the homeless, supporting education and
11research, and promoting the arts, and
12     WHEREAS, individuals, foundations, and corporations in
13Florida donated approximately $17.7 billion to charitable
14organizations in 2007, and
15     WHEREAS, individual giving accounted for almost 80 percent
16of Florida's charitable gifts while charitable bequests
17comprised approximately 12 percent, and foundations,
18corporations, and other grant-making organizations provided the
19remaining 8 percent, and
20     WHEREAS, 75 percent of Floridians gave money to a
21charitable organization in 2008, and
22     WHEREAS, according to the Florida Philanthropic Network,
23Florida has more than 4,000 active grant-making foundations and
24corporate givers that distributed more than $1.4 billion in
25grants to charitable organizations and causes in 2007,and
26     WHEREAS, individuals, foundations, and corporate givers
27contribute to the state's economic and social systems in ways
28that government and businesses cannot, NOW, THEREFORE,

30Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
31Florida:

33     That the generous individuals, foundations, and corporate
34givers of this state are recognized and commended for the many
35charitable acts they perform that enrich the quality of life of
36all Floridians.
