1	House Resolution
2	A resolution designating May 13, 2010, as "Florida
3	Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve Day."
4
5	WHEREAS, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
6	is a Department of Defense organization whose committee members
7	volunteer their time in support of the men and women of the
8	National Guard and reserves, their families, and their
9	employers, and
10	WHEREAS, the ESGR seeks to promote a culture in which
11	employers throughout the nation support and place appropriate
12	value upon the military service of their employees as they
13	defend our nation and provide for our national security, and
14	WHEREAS, ESGR was established in 1972 as an agency of the
15	United States Department of Defense and is funded by the
16	department, and
17	WHEREAS, the organization constantly endeavors to gain and
18	maintain employer support for National Guard and reserve service
19	by recognizing outstanding support of such servicemembers and
20	increasing awareness of the importance of that support, and
21	WHEREAS, the Florida ESGR committee provides support to the
22	37,000 reserve members who serve in the Air National Guard, Air
23	Force Reserve, Army National Guard, Army Reserve, Coast Guard
24	Reserve, Marine Corp Reserve, and Navy Reserve, and
25	WHEREAS, in 2009, the more than 130 volunteers of the
26	Florida ESGR committee worked a total of 8,782 hours to
27	accomplish various tasks in support of the state's National
28	Guard members and reservists, and
29	WHEREAS, supportive employers are critical to maintaining
30	the strength and readiness of our National Guard and reserve
31	units and ESGR is an invaluable resource for both employers and
32	the National Guard and military reserve members that works for
33	them, and
34	WHEREAS, employers and members of ESGR are provided
35	assistance by volunteers across the state under the authority of
36	the federal Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment
37	Rights Act (USERRA), and
38	WHEREAS, volunteers assist employers and members of ESGR in
39	familiarizing themselves with the resources and services that
40	ESGR provides and encourage members and employers to take
41	advantage of this information and assistance should the need
42	ever arise, and
43	WHEREAS, ESGR's employer outreach volunteers provide
44	information, education, and services for employers through
45	programs across the state, and
46	WHEREAS, ESGR also has an awards program designed to
47	acknowledge the efforts of employers to support their military
48	employees, and
49	WHEREAS, ESGR's military outreach volunteers provide
50	National Guard and military reserve members with important
51	information about their rights and responsibilities under USERRA
52	and about ESGR programs and services, and
53	WHEREAS, ESGR-trained volunteer ombudsmen provide
54	information, confidential counseling, and neutral mediation
55	relating to compliance with USERRA requirements, and
56	WHEREAS, Florida employer support for the National Guard
57	and reserve honors our courageous guardsmen and reservists, the
58	continued support of whom is vital to the success of our Armed
59	Forces and to the strength of the nation, and
60	WHEREAS, it is essential not only to maintain employer
61	support for members of the Florida National Guard and military
62	reserves by recognizing outstanding contributions and efforts by
63	employers, increasing awareness of the laws that support Florida
64	National Guard and military reserve service, and resolving
65	conflicts through mediation, it is equally essential to
66	continually strive to increase such support, and
67	WHEREAS, it is fitting and appropriate for the Florida
68	House of Representatives to express its full support for the
69	Florida Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve organization
70	and, in furtherance of that support, designate a day in honor of
71	the organization and its volunteers, NOW, THEREFORE,

73	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
74	Florida:

76	That the House of Representatives of the State of Florida
77	designates May 13, 2010, as "Florida Employer Support of the
78	Guard and Reserve Day."
79	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of
80	the State of Florida urges all Floridians to learn more about
81	the Florida Employer Support for the Guard and Reserve
82	organization and the resources and services it provides, and to
83	take advantage of the information and assistance offered by the
84	organization in support of the members of the Florida National
85	Guard and the military reserves and their employers in the State
86	of Florida.
