1	House Resolution
2	A resolution recognizing Pedro J. Greer, Jr., M.D., as an
3	outstanding humanitarian, physician, professor, and
4	author.
5
6	WHEREAS, Dr. Pedro J. Greer's passion for health care and
7	social justice has inspired him to establish clinics that
8	provide health services to the homeless and the disadvantaged,
9	and
10	WHEREAS, Dr. Greer founded the Camillus Health Concern,
11	which provides medical care to more than 10,000 homeless and
12	low-income patients a year in the City of Miami, and the St.
13	John Bosco Clinic, which provides basic primary medical care to
14	disadvantaged children and adults, many of whom are poor
15	undocumented immigrants, in the Little Havana community, and
16	WHEREAS, Dr. Greer is the Assistant Dean of Academic
17	Affairs at the Florida International University School of
18	Medicine and runs his own private practice of Gastroenterology
19	at Mercy Hospital, and
20	WHEREAS, Dr. Greer has served as an advisor to President
21	Bill Clinton and President George H. W. Bush, currently serves
22	as an Advisory Trustee at the Rand Corporation, and is a Fellow
23	in the American College of Gastroenterology, and
24	WHEREAS, in addition to receiving numerous awards, Dr.
25	Greer has been honored with three Papal medals, received the
26	prestigious MacArthur "Genius" Fellowship, and was dubbed a
27	Knight of Malta, and
28	WHEREAS, Dr. Greer was honored in August 2009 by President
29	Barack Obama as an "Agent of Change" and was awarded the
30	Presidential Medal of Freedom, and
31	WHEREAS, Dr. Greer is the author of "Waking Up in America:
32	How One Doctor Brings Hope to Those Who Need It Most" and
33	numerous articles and has been featured on programs broadcast on
34	major television networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, Fox, HBO,
35	PBS, and the BBC, NOW, THEREFORE,

37	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38	Florida:

40	That the House of Representatives recognizes Pedro J.
41	Greer, Jr., M.D., as a man fueled by his passion for health care
42	and social justice who has aided the poor and the sick of the
43	City of Miami and has helped to create positive changes in that
44	community.
45	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
46	presented to Dr. Pedro J. Greer, Jr., as a tangible token of the
47	sentiments expressed herein.
