1	House Resolution
2	A resolution recognizing Emmitt James Smith III for his
3	selection as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

5	WHEREAS, Emmitt James Smith III was born on May 15, 1969,
6	in Pensacola, where he attended Escambia High School and, in
7	1986, was named the USA Today and Parade Magazine high school
8	player of the year, and
9	WHEREAS, Emmitt James Smith III attended the University of
10	Florida, where he was named the 1989 SEC Player of the Year and
11	was later inducted into the Gator Football Ring of Honor and the
12	College Football Hall of Fame, and
13	WHEREAS, Emmitt James Smith III was selected by the Dallas
14	Cowboys as the number 17 overall pick in the 1990 National
15	Football League Draft, and
16	WHEREAS, over the course of his illustrious 15-year career,
17	Emmitt James Smith III amassed 18,355 rushing yards, making him
18	the National Football League's all-time rushing leader, a record
19	formerly held by his childhood hero, Walter Payton, and
20	WHEREAS, among his many accomplishments in the National
21	Football League, Emmitt James Smith III led the league in
22	rushing yards in 1991, 1992, 1993, and 1995; had 11 straight
23	1,000-yard seasons; and was a major contributor to the Dallas
24	Cowboys Super Bowl XXVII, XXVIII, and XXX championship teams,
25	and
26	WHEREAS, for his many outstanding contributions to the
27	Dallas Cowboys' football organization, Emmitt James Smith III
28	was enshrined in the Dallas Cowboys' Ring of Honor in 2005, and
29	WHEREAS, in his first year of eligibility, Emmitt James
30	Smith III was selected as a member of the Pro Football Hall of
31	Fame's Class of 2010 and will be inducted on August 7, 2010,
32	NOW, THEREFORE,

34	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
35	Florida:

37	That Emmitt James Smith III is recognized and congratulated
38	on his selection as a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
39	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
40	presented to Emmitt James Smith III as a tangible token of the
41	sentiments expressed herein.
